IPCC WG1 AR5（気候変動に関する政府間パネル 第一作業部会 第5次報告書）のFinal Draftが先日、公式に公開された。2013年3月までの、気候変動に関する自然科学的知見がまとめられている。

ここでは、自分の研究分野に関連する第5章（古気候記録からの情報）について、概要（Executive Summary）の中で太字強調されている部分を抜粋して、2013年9月30日時点の「速報版」として、日本語訳してみた。ざっと概観するぶんには便利だと思う。（いくつかのトピックに関しては、そのうちに解説めいたものを書くかもしれない）

なお、今回のIPCC WG1 AR5 第5章は、「2007年発行のIPCC WG1 AR4 第6章（古気候）のアップデート版」という位置づけなので、前回から有意に研究に進展があった部分の更新がメインだ。なので、前回の概要も合わせて読んだ方が分かりやすいと思われる。IPCC WG1 AR4に関しては、気象庁が要約や各章概要の日本語訳を公開している。AR5に関しても同様に、要約や各章概要の日本語訳がそのうち公開されるはずだ。

［温室効果ガスの変動と、過去の気候の応答］

1.      大気中温室効果ガス、二酸化炭素（CO2）、メタン（CH4）、亜酸化窒素（N2O）の現代（2011年）の濃度が、アイスコアに記録されている過去80万年間の濃度範囲を超えていることは、事実である。

2.      CO2、CH4、N2Oの大気中濃度の現在の上昇率と、それに伴う放射強制力は、過去2万2千年間の最高解像度のアイスコア記録と比べても前例がない（非常に高い確信度）。

3.      大気中CO2濃度の変動は、氷期間氷期サイクルに重要な役割を担っている（高い確信度）。

4.      最終氷期最盛期（2万1千年前～1万9千年前）の復元とシミュレーションから新たに見積もられた平衡気候感度の値が、大気中CO2濃度の倍増に対して1℃を下回るもしくは6℃を上回る可能性は非常に低い。

5.      高い大気中CO2濃度で特徴づけられる、過去のいくつかの時代では、地表面の全球平均気温が産業革命前の水準よりも有意に高かった（中程度の確信度）。

6.      古気候の新たな温度復元とシミュレーションは、大気中CO2濃度の変動に応答した極温暖化増幅（polar amplification）を示している（高い確信度）。

［過去の温暖期における全球海水準の変動］

7.      19世紀後半～20世紀前半に始まった全球平均海水準変動の現在の速度は、過去2千年間における百年スケール変動と比べて、異常に高い（中程度の確信度）。

8.      最終間氷期（12万9千年前～11万6千年前）における全球平均海水準の最高値は、現在の海水準よりも高く、その差は5m以上（非常に高い確信度）、10m以下（高い確信度）だった。

9.      中期鮮新世の温暖期（330万年前～300万年前）には、全球平均海水準は現在よりも高く（高い確信度）、極の氷床の体積が減少していたことを示唆している。

［間氷期の気候変動と比較した、近年観測された気候変動］

10.   最終間氷期（12万9千年前～11万6千年前）における最も温暖な数千年間では、新たな気温復元とシミュレーションによると、地表面の年間全球平均気温は、現在より最高でも2℃高いだけだった（中程度の確信度）。

11.   北半球の中高緯度において、地表面の年間平均気温の20世紀からの温暖化は、過去5千年間における長期的な寒冷化傾向を逆転させた（高い確信度）。

12.   北極域における現在（1980-2012年）の夏季の海氷後退と海水面温度上昇は、古気候復元によると、少なくとも過去2千年間では異常である（中程度の確信度）。

13.   8千年前～6千年前における、北半球非赤道域の氷河拡大範囲（glacier extent）が示した極小の主要因は、軌道要素変動による夏季の高い日射量（insolation）である（高い確信度）。

14.   北半球の年間平均気温について、1983-2012年は、過去800年間において最も温暖な30年間だった可能性が非常に高く（高い確信度）、過去1400年間において最も温暖な30年間だった可能性が高い（中程度の確信度）。

15.   大陸スケールの地表面気温復元によると、中世気候変調期（Medieval Climate Anomaly：950-1250年）において、地域によっては、20世紀中期や20世紀後期と同程度に温暖だった数十年間があった（高い確信度）。

16.   様々な地域において、20世紀初頭以降に観測されたものよりも激しくかつ長期間にわたる干ばつが、過去千年間に発生していた（高い確信度）。

17.   北部・中部ヨーロッパ、西部地中海地域、東アジアにおいて、1900年以降に記録されたものより大規模な洪水が、過去500年間に発生していた（高い確信度）。

［気候モードの過去の変動］

18.   新たな高解像度サンゴ記録によると、エルニーニョ南方振動（El Niño-Southern Oscillation: ENSO）システムは過去7千年間を通して変動が大きく（高い確信度）、軌道要素によるENSO変調の証拠は認められない。

19.   冬季の北大西洋振動指数（North Atlantic Oscillation: NAO）の、20世紀以降に観測された十年～数十年規模の変動は、過去500年間の中では異常なものではない（高い確信度）。

20.   夏季の南半球環状モード（Southern Annular Mode）の、1950年以降の強度増大は、過去400年間の中で異常なものである（中程度の確信度）。

［急激な気候変動と、不可逆性］

21.   間氷期モードの大西洋子午面循環（Atlantic Ocean meridional overturning circulation: AMOC）は、北大西洋亜北極域における短期間の淡水インプットから回復できる（高い確信度）。

22.   北大西洋の気候変動と低緯度域の降水パターン変動との間のつながりに関して、第4次報告書（AR4）から確信度は高くなった。

23.   今後千年間において、軌道要素変動が広範囲にわたる氷河化のきっかけにはなりえないことは、ほぼ確実である。

24.   過去数百万年間のうち現在より全球的に温暖だった時期において、グリーンランド氷床と西南極氷床の体積は、現在より減少していた（高い確信度）。
